Sometimes, just like god, our body reacts in mysterious ways too. You may not want to pee when you’re sitting at home waiting for your date to come pick you up but the moment you guys hit the road, your bladder sends the red signal. How often has this happened to you? It’s true that all of us would have gotten embarrassed at least once due to our body’s sudden and uncontrollable reactions during the most unpredictable time. While these reactions are not fatal or dangerous, they can simply be awkward. You wouldn’t want to spend that important presentation hiccupping and making your colleagues giggle, right? Well, don’t worry because we’ve got you a bunch of hacks that can actually help control some of these body reactions! Read on to know more.
1. The Homo Erectus
Women are really lucky because it’s impossible for people to know if they’re aroused by just looking at their physical appearance. Unfortunately, it’s quite the opposite if you’re a guy because your emotions can be “pretty clear” when you’re thinking about a girl or even watching a steamy scene from Titanic. The visibility of your pocket rocket can be really embarrassing if you’re in a public place. But, don’t worry, there are many hacks to get rid of this ‘problem’. The most commonly used one is to think about something which is galaxies away from a romantic partner or situation. Usually, something like the death of your dog, grandma’s chocolate pudding, or something sad from the past are can do the trick. Also, some people believe that a faster solution is to make a fist or pump their biceps for about 30 seconds, it basically reduces the blood flow down there.
2. Stuffy/Runny Nose
A stuffy nose can make it difficult for you to breathe properly. It’s also embarrassing if you’re out with someone and the problem of leaky nostrils shows up. Some people believe that massaging the area between the eyebrows will help get relief from a stuffy nose. Well, it’s worth a try, right?
Hiccups are funny for people around you but they are uncomfortable and sometimes painful for the person experiencing them. The situation becomes a nightmare when your teacher or boss comes in to talk to you in front of everyone, and you begin to hiccup. Hiccups can occur due to many reasons including eating too much, too fast, sipping on carbonated drinks, munching spicy food, or too much of excitement and stress are some of the reasons. When you experience hiccups, try to control your breathing and slow down the pace. Breathe in for five seconds and breathe out for another five. This will help in getting rid of hiccups.
4. The Sudden Pain When You Run
You might have experienced a sudden, piercing pain when you run. This happens when you don’t warm up enough before the actual running. In case you get this pain (often around your stomach area) try shifting your body weight to the opposite side. You can keep running but do not stress too much in the same area that is hurting. If you continue this for a few minutes, the pain will reduce.
5. Irritated Throat
A tingling sensation in your throat that prompts you to keep coughing every two minutes can be really bothersome. Drinking water may not always help in such situations and what if you’re in a place where you don’t have speedy access to water? This is when you can try the ear massage trick. It’s pretty simple— just massage your ear openings (preferably the left one) and see the cough disappear in no time!
6. The Pain From Getting A Shot
Injections are always scary be it for kids or for adults (most of them). Distracting your mind while getting the shot may reduce the intensity of the pain that you will experience. This works for many which is why your doctor tries to talk to you during the needle action.
7. Urgency To Pee
Imagine getting stuck in a place with no toilets but you really have to pee— we’ve all been there. If it’s going to take some more time for you to reach a place where you can actually drain your bladder, try scratching your calves for a few seconds. This might give you some more time and better control over the urgency that you feel.
8. Overheating Of The Body
You might feel that your body is overheating after a workout session or after a hectic day at the athletics training camp. Try placing something cold on any of your pulse points to get relieved from this feeling. Your pulse points include your wrists, temples, and area under the knees. Wearing a headband or wristbands when you workout will help in this case.
Many of our body’s reactions can be controlled physically and psychologically.
