For centuries, vinegar has been used for various household and cooking purposes. And if you ask us what’s the most popular type of vinegar out there which is currently everybody’s favorite pick? We would say that it has to be apple cider vinegar. Replete with vital nutrients, apple cider vinegar (ACV) can do more than just helping you lose those extra kilos. This multi-tasking ingredient can be used to step up your beauty routine, as it can also do wonders for your skin and hair.
So, if you aren’t keen on taking down a few shots of the ACV. You can choose to slather it all over your bod as a beauty routine. Sure, you could end up smelling like a salad dressing, but there are genuine benefits of using it on your skin and hair. Let’s have a look at some of them.
1. It Soothes Your Skin
The dirt and pollutants present in the environment outside damage our skin in an uninhibited manner. In order to alleviate this damage, we need to practice skincare routines that will soothe our skin and give it some respite from all the stress that it has been under throughout the day. Fill a bathtub with warm water, add around 250 ml of ACV to it.
Soak in this for a good 15 minutes, and allow the ACV to work its magic. The anti-inflammatory properties of the ACV will bring balance to your inflamed skin. ACV contains alpha hydroxy acids which exfoliate chemically and remove the buildup of dead skin cells from the body (1). You’ll find your skin smoother and softer after getting out of the bathtub.
2. It Acts As A Facial Toner
Vinegar is considered to be a natural acne fighter. It has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties which keep the bacteria at bay and therefore, prevent the formation of pimples on our face. It helps to eradicate excess oil from our face and also helps to balance the skin’s pH levels (2). We suggest that after you’ve washed your face with a cleanser, dip a small cotton ball in ACV and gently dab it over your skin. Let it dry and then apply a moisturizer if required.
3. It Can Be Used As Hair Rinser
In a cup of water, mix two tablespoons of ACV and soak your freshly-washed hair in it. Following this massage your scalp for a good ten minutes, before you rinse your hair. The acetic acid present in ACV will help remove the residue (the buildup of hair products) from your scalp and hair, prevent hair loss, and will leave your locks looking lustrous and shiny (3). You can follow it up with a conditioner if you like.
4. It Can Be Used As A Remedy For Razor Bumps
One of the main reasons for razor bumps is ingrown hairs. Women usually turn to razors to get rid of unwanted hair from their body and often end up with razor bumps. You can solve this problem by applying ACV on your skin. The ACV helps remove the dead skin cells; it helps to exfoliate the skin that has been trapping ingrown hairs.
5. It Helps To Treat Dandruff
If you have a dandruff problem and none of the medicated treatments are working for you, then we suggest that you resort to ACV. Mix equal parts of ACV with your regular shampoo. Use this solution to wash your hair.
Massage it gently onto your scalp and then rinse it off. You will soon notice that your dandruff has become significantly less. The ACV has antifungal properties that help mitigate dandruff issues or any scalp-related problems (4).
6. It Can Be Used As A Foot Deodorizer
We cannot help it, some of us do sweat a little more than normal and one of the main problems that result from this is that we’re often left with smelly feet. And yes, at times it does become embarrassing as well. But don’t worry, even this problem can be fixed by ACV. In a bucket or tub, mix a cup of ACV with four cups of water. Soak your feet inside it for fifteen minutes and then rinse and dry your feet. The rank odor of the feet is deodorized thanks to the antiseptic properties of ACV. It also helps to keep antifungal infections like the athlete’s foot at bay (5).
