1. Field Spot

The first thing we notice in watermelons is the white spots. These are called field spots are considered normal. The field spot is basically the spot where the watermelon rested on the ground while growing. Go for a watermelon that has a creamy-yellow or orangish-yellow field spot

2.Webbing

The web-like scars that are brown in color are created by bees. When the bees pollinate the flower, they scar the membranes of the fruit that comes in to being later. So, the more webbing it has, the more pollination the watermelon has received, thus it’s sweeter.

3. Boy Or Girl?

Nah, we aren’t being discriminatory here, but the boy watermelons are elongated and taller in appearance. The round and stout ones are usually the girl watermelons. If you want sweeter ones, go for the stout ones. If you want more watery melons, go for the boy melons.

4.Size

Size matters! Yes, in watermelons too. Because we are conditioned to think that bigger is better (still talking about watermelons), we always go for a bigger watermelon and add it our cart. But, it’s usually the average-sized watermelons that are the best.

5. Tap It

The best to find out if the watermelon in perfect is by tapping it. Place the watermelon two inches from your ear and tap it with your hand. If it’s not ripe yet, it will make a faint noise. If it’s too ripe, it will sound thick. If it sounds deep and hollow, the watermelon is perfect.
