Want to learn how to save the world while keeping yourself centered, like Bush does? Watch the video.
Unsurprisingly, Sophia Bush is one step ahead of us: On the most recent episode of The Avocado Show, Well+Good’s YouTube series where celebs sit down with our favorite fruit, she shares that sh loves the green staple so much, she recently planted 12 avocado trees at her house. It makes sense. The actress and activist is on top of doing All The Things. She uses her platform to speak out on gun control, period poverty, and climate change. And if you’re looking to flex your activist muscles but aren’t quite sure where to begin, Bush has some insight: Identify what fires you up the most.
“Figure out what it is that lights you up. When you witness something, and it fills you with that feeling of sacred rage, like, ‘This cannot be happening in the world, we have to do something about this,’ listen to that voice.” Bush says. “That kind of fire, that kind of passion, is an indicator that you really truly care about something. And then go and help the helpers.”

And don’t forget to advocate for yourself! She recommends checking in with yourself at least once a day, and feeding what you really need—especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed.
“There are so many things out there in the world that are asking for our attention and asking to be chosen, and asking to be prioritized, and we often forget to choose ourselves,” Bush says. “So that could be two minutes of deep breathing before a meeting, that could be a meditation practice, that could be eating the kind of food that you deserve to eat, that could be drinking more water”
Basically, Bush can be your source of inspiration for tackling issues, big and bold, and small but mighty. “I think one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever gotten is not to wait for fear to go, to be afraid and do it anyway,” Bush says. “And to take my vitamins—that feels like a good one.”
Want to learn more about Bush’s must-read books, what makes her feel strong, and her perfect avocado-toast toast (fresh avocado mash, microgreens, sea salt, radish—you’re welcome)? Watch the full episode to eat it all up.
