  • A zipper lining
  • Some sewing clips

Step 1: Cut All Your Fabric Pieces

The first thing you need to be doing for your bean bag chair pattern is to determine how big you want your bean bag to be. We are making something that is big enough to fit two children for this easy tutorial.

Some Details to Note:

  • This tutorial is for a bean bag that is 45 inches long and 26 inches wide.
  • Cut four pieces of 45 by 26 inches.
  • Cut one piece that is 26 by 26 inches in measurement.
  • For your zipper side, cut a 26 by 27 inches piece of fabric.

Step 2: Create a Tube

Once you’re done cutting all your baric pieces, align them and sew them together. You are basically sewing a tube at this point, so it is important to sew the right sides together.

Here are the Steps in Detail:

  • Grab two of the long side pieces, make the right sides of both fabrics face each other.
  • Sew them together along with one of their long sides.
  • Do the same thing to sew the other two long side pieces together.
  • Take those two pieces that we just sewed and sew them together.
  • Place them so that the right sides are facing each other and sew down both long sides.

Step 3: Seal the Tube

Seal that tube close using your square fabrics.

Here are the Steps in Detail:

  • Line up a square piece with one of the 26-inch edges of the tube.
  • Pin them together and sew along that edge.
  • Repeat the sewing to all 4 sides.

Step 4: Time for the Zipper!

Now, all that is left is to sew is on the last side. This is the side that we’re going to be adding the zipper to.

Here are the Steps in Detail:

  • Cut the fabric down the middle to create 2 rectangles that are both 26 inches by 15.5 inches.
  • Place the zipper face down along the edge of one of the pieces of fabric and sew down that edge.
  • Now, place the other side of the zipper right sides together with the other piece of fabric.
  • Sew this side to the tube just how you sewed on the other square side.
  • Be sure to have your zipper unzipped about halfway so that you will be able to turn it right side out when you’re done.

Step 5: Turn It Right Side Out and Fill It!

The next step is to simply turn it right side out, and fill it with your bean bag filler.

Some Tips to Note:

  • Open the zipper carefully to avoid any untoward accidents.
  • Zip it open completely so that no bean bag fillers will jump out of your kids’ bean bag chairs.
  • When pouring in the bean bag fillers, make sure to pour from a smaller hole than your zipper opening.
  • Pour the bean fillers very carefully! This will help you with cleaning up afterward.
  • Do not overfill! Make sure to leave space for the bean bag fillers to move around in.
  • Remember that your kids will be sitting on the kids’ bean bag chairs, so you need to leave room for them to sit on.

You can zip it close carefully and place it in your kids’ rooms to use once you have filled your kids’ bean bag chairs with bean bag fillers!
