Here’s a Super Easy DIY Boho Decor for Your Room!

What You Will Need:

  • Different colored yarns (the colors are up to you, but for this particular project, we are using cream, mustard, and red-orange)
  • Wooden dowel (the length is also up to your preference)
  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape (this is optional if you want to be specific with your DIY boho decor hanging piece)

Step 1: Cut Your Yarns!

Grab your white yarn and your scissors. Measure how long you want your DIY boho decor to be and double that length with your yarn.

Cut your yarn and fold that single string in half. Once you’ve folded it, you should have two ends of your desired length. Do the same procedure and the same length or measurement for the rest of your white yarn.

Once you have enough white yarn, grab your colored yarns and cut them your desired length. The process is similar to what you did for the white yarn in that you double the measurement and fold it in half.

However, for the colored yarn, you have to make their length a lot shorter than the white yarn. The colored yarns will be placed at the opposite ends of your wooden dowel, so you need to make them shorter.

The pattern we’re going for with this tutorial is a V-shaped curtain. So the middle threads, which is the white yarn, have to have the longest length. The threads on the end, which are your colored yarns, have to have a much shorter length.

Step 2: Align and Attach

Once you have all your yarn cut out to your desired length, line them up against your wooden dowel according to the arrangement–longest yarn in the middle, and shortest ones on the opposite sides.

One by one, you’re gonna loop each of your yarn to your wooden dowl. Make sure that the loop is over the wooden dowel and not the other way around.

While you’re looping in your yarn threads for your DIY boho decor, ensure that each thread is tightly placed beside each other. You may do so by carefully compressing the threads together at the looped part on the dowel.

Do this procedure for the rest of your threads, making sure that you are following your arrangement. Group your colors together unless you want a random colored thread in the middle of all your white yarn!

Step 3: Time for Your Twine!

Once you’ve gotten all your threads attached and packed tightly to your wooden dowel, grab your twine! With your twine, measure how low you want your DIY boho decor to hang against your wall hook.

Cut your twine according to your measurements or your estimate, and tie the ends to the opposite ends of your wooden dowel. Make sure that you don’t make your hanging twine too long for your DIY boho decor.

Having a really long hanging twine might be a bit distracting and might take away from the beauty of your design. So keep your twine short and tidy!

Step 4: Mark Your Pattern

When you are done attaching your twine, hang your DIY boho decor on your wall and let the yarn threads hang freely. Flatten the threads against the wall by carefully combing through each thread with your fingers and your palm.

When your threads are all aligned and there are no knots, it is time to mark where you’re going to cut! As mentioned in the earlier step above, the pattern we’re making with this DIY boho decor is a V-shape, so you need the opposite ends to be short, and you need the middle to be long.

Measure your last thread on each end and cut accordingly. Then, go to your white threads and eyeball the centermost thread. Cut the thread and make sure that it’s longer than the colored threads that you just cut at both ends.

Step 5: Cut Your V!

Now you’re ready for the final step in this process! With the markers at the ends and at the middle, cut along straight lines from the middle mark towards the opposite ends.

You can use your measure tape for this one, or simply eyeball it with your scissors. After all, you already have your markers in place, so it should be easy for you to cut a V-shape.

When cutting, it would be best to hold the threads against the wall using your hand. This is done so that the threads don’t move around when you cut them.

Comb through the threads when you’re done and cut away any long threads that don’t follow the pattern. Take note that it doesn’t have to be perfect, as long as the V-shape is visible, then it is fine.
