Below is a creative and a very easy tutorial on how to make candles from leftover candle jar wax, with the result being a beautifully layered candle in a jar!

How to Reuse Candle Wax Creatively? Here’s an Inspiration for You!
Here’s What You Will Be Needing:
- Wax warmer
- Pair of scissors
- Candle wicks
- Leftover candle wax from old candle jars
- A new jar (only if needed)
Step 1: Melt Your First Candle!
First off, grab all your materials and lay them all out on your worktable. You can choose to line your table with some old newspapers so you’re sure that you won’t make a mess and bring irreversible damage to your table when you’re done.
Grab your candle warmer and place your first candle jar with leftover wax on it. Let it melt completely and remove all wick holder at the bottom using your scissors. You’re ready for the next step when your first wax is completely melted and all your wick bases have been removed!
Things to Keep in Mind:
- Make sure not to use your fingers to remove these because the wax is completely melted at this point, which means it is extremely hot. You don’t want to burn your fingers!
Step 2 (Option 1): Recycle Your Jar
If you have a similarly colored candle wax from your candle jars that you’re recycling for this project, then follow this step. Otherwise, you can proceed to the next step option ahead.
So once your first candle wax is all nice and melted and you’ve removed all wick bases, you are gonna pour all the melted wax into the jar that has the same colored wax. You are going to heat that jar by placing it on top of your candle warmer.
While its heating and the rest of the wax is melting, you’re going to get the jar that you’ve just poured your melted wax from, remove any stickers, and clean it in your sink.
Things to Keep in Mind:
- Get all the remaining wax out, the ones that stayed on the glass surface after you’ve poured it out, and wipe the jar thoroughly to dry.
- Once the rest of the candle wax has been melted and the other wick bases have been taken out, grab the jar that you just cleaned and place a new wick in the center. You can place as many wicks as you like for your new candle as long as is fits your jar and there’s enough space in between each of them.
- Pour all of the wax into your newly cleaned jar and let it solidify completely. Your new wick needs to be upright for while it’s drying so you’re gonna need something to keep it straight up.
- You can use a comb and insert the wick between the teeth. Place it across the top of your jar, and your wick should stay upright with no problem!
This method helps you save on your candle jars as well as it doesn’t require you to have a new one.
Step 2 (Option 2): Pour Melted Wax Into New Container
You are going to get your new jar and place a new wick in the middle. Just like what was mentioned in the first option above, you can use multiple wicks as long as your jar opening permits it.
Pour your melted candle wax into your container and let it dry completely before adding the next colors.
Pro Tip: Make sure to leave enough spaces in between your wicks and secure your wicks upright by using a comb and inserting it between the teeth.

Step 3: Repeat The Process!
The next step in how to reuse candle wax is essentially a repetition of your first and second steps. You’re gonna do the same for all your remaining candle wax.
That means you are gonna heat each of them up using your candle warmers. Remove all the wick bases using your scissors and throw them away or use them for another creative project.
Pour your new melted candle wax over your new candle jar with the previous layers already completely dried.
Things to Keep in Mind:
- It’s important in each step to pour over new colors when your previous layer has dried or solidified completely. The colors will mix if you don’t let it solidify and your journey with how to reuse candle wax would be put to waste.
- Unless you want a marble effect in your colors and not a layered style, then you can totally do this! It’s up to you, we’re just here as your guide, after all.
Step 4: Let Everything Solidify
The final step in the process of how to reuse candle wax is a no-brainer because you just have to let the top layer solidify completely.
